Atherton

After all the dust and mud from the Cape, we spent two days in a caravan park in Atherton so we could do some washing, empty the car and clean it inside and out, rearrange stuff in the van... a general tidy-up.

We then moved down to the Rocky Creek War Memorial Park free camp in Atherton. Free camping means no facilities, no water, toilets etc. which is fine for us as we have water, a great shower, separate toilet and two fridges.
Lovely open grassland with about 25 neighbours each night, some of which we shared a fire and swapped stories, and others we had our own fire.
Lots of sunshine, which we need for solar.

Atherton is in the Tablelands above Cairns and is about 750m above sea level so is a bit cooler, especially at night where we have had to pull out the doona from under the seat!

We had a good six days here, a few touristy things as well as a bit of R&R.

We went to the Skybury coffee plantation,

HAD to revisit the amazing Curtain Fig

Dropped in to a market inside an amazing roofed pavilion at a showground

Went for a walk around Lake Barrine. Saw some turtles but not the freshwater croc that resides there.

Coff and scones at Lake Eacham

Had out first fire of the trip. It's chilly in the Tablelands!

Milla Milla Falls

On to the Savannah Way towards Normanton in the Gulf now.
